Cross-border networking for the development of a regional brand for climate-smart agricultural production in the Black Sea Region

AGREEN aims at establishment of capacities for networking and knowledge-transfer of climate-smart agricultural practices. This could bring many benefits to the involved parties and re-build the main economical and social pillar of countries in the BSB - Agriculture.

During the period of Work Package No.1 AGREEN consortium has a set of objectives to achieve. The first goal of AGREEN project is to adapt the "community of practice" approach and link professional expertise and farmers. Another specific objective that will be achieved within WP1 is the creation of a recognizable common brand to complement labelling climate-smart agricultural products originating in the Black Sea Basin region.

The implementation of the branding strategy shall be complemented with the elaboration of an interactive map of logistic centres for retail and wholesale trade which facilitate trade in sustainably delivered agricultural products in the partner countries and the regions.

Climate-smart Agricultural Practices in the Black Sea Basin

Climate-smart crop models, adapted to the environmental, social and economic conditions in the BSB region is another specific objective of the AGREEN consortium covered by the set of goals within Work package No.2

The aim is to strengthen cooperation among the framers, entrepreneurs and professionals engaged in conservation and sustainable agriculture in the Black Sea region via improving the information exchange, peer learning and to encourage modernisation and better performance of the sustainable farms. Together with the existing solutions, identified in WP1, they will provide the agricultural producers with a set of models that will enable them to improve the performance of the their farms in the new changed climate environment in the BSB.

AGREEN COP shall use crop modelling method to demonstrate to the farmers and examine climate adaptability to different endemic sorts. This process will be shared with teams of representatives of business development organisations, associations and other sectoral organizations in agriculture.

Internet connectivity for information exchange and learning in climate-smart agriculture in the Black Sea Basin

Internet connectivity for information exchange and learning in climate-smart agriculture in the Black Sea Basin will be achieved by the integration of proper internet tool for network establishment and provision of trade channels. This platform will be the bridge for transnational connection between climate-smart producers, cooperatives, associations, experts.

It will enable stakeholders to effectively use the information, to support the improvement of farming processes by efficient peer learning and modernize the monitoring of good agricultural pactices and traceability of farm products.

Entrepreneurial learning for climate-smart agriculture

Transforming agriculture and adopting practices that are "climate-smart" in the Black Sea Basin depends on the targeted improvement of the knowledge of the farmers and Agri entrepreneurs.

Farmers are under the greatest threat from climate change, but they also play a major role in addressing it. Climate-smart farming techniques can increase agricultural productivity and incomes, make rural communities more resilient to climate change and where possible, mitigate climate change. Local knowledge, as well as the capacity to link research and local activities, plays a key role in scaling up the CSA approach to reinforce the resilience of farmers’ livelihoods.

Accordingly, the WP4 involves the joint development of training course “Entrepreneurship for Climate-smart Agriculture in the Black Sea Basin”, adapted to blended mobility and integrated in the AGREE platform. The course shall be tested with a pilot group of trainees who will in turn conduct national trainings to multiply the course in their communities. Experts from AGREEN COP and professionals with a background in agricultural education and innovations will develop a training course for climate-smart entrepreneurs adapted for blended-mobility.
