International Business Conference on models and best practices for climate-smart agriculture in the BSB

On March 21 and 22, 2023, Association “Dobrudzha Agrarian and Business School” (DABS) was the host and organizer of the International Business Conference on models and best practices for climate-smart agriculture in the Black Sea Basin by project “Cross-Border Alliance for Climate-Smart and Green Agriculture in the Black Sea Basin” /AGREEN/, ref. No. BSB-1135, co-financed by the Joint Operational Programme “Black Sea Basin 2014-2020”.

The event aimed to present the climate-smart crop models and successful practices in sustainable agriculture developed during the AGREEN project that can be applied in the Black Sea region from the professional community and sectoral organizations in agriculture, with a goal to improve their efficiency and modernization.

The focus of the conference was sharing the results of scientific and applied research and experimentation of those developed by the project partners models, the strengthening of cooperation between business and research, as well as the experience shared by practitioners of climate-smart agriculture. The event was also attended by scientists from the Dobrudja Agricultural Institute (DAI) – General Toshevo.

One of the speakers at the conference was Assoc. prof. Hristo Stoyanov, PhD from DAI, who presented the climate-smart models developed by the Bulgarian side: growing triticale using the No-till method and growing okra in a greenhouse, with the condition of organic production. In practice, both models aim to establish what the possibilities and perspectives of the two cultures are and to be tested with these farming methods in order to establish their applicability and sustainability in the context of local climatic conditions as well as to assess the potential economic and ecological benefits of their cultivation by local farmers, compared to traditional technologies.

More information about both models and their effectiveness can be found in the “Goals and Results” section of the website:
